ORGANIZATION
MOUNTED SHOE RACK
Young sneakerheads have limited space for their growing shoe collections. As a result they have a difficult time consistantly wearing all of their shoes with most of their pairs being in storage or being hidden away.
MARKET
Sneakerheads are passionate about collecting and wearing different kinds of shoes. This market knows about the history and culture behind the different brands and their silhouettes
Christian Alvarez, 20
Based in Northern California, Christian Alvarez is a student at San José State University, living in a shared off-campus apartment in San Jose.
DAILY LIFE
Throughout the day, Christian takes different classes, works out, and attends social events. Depending where he is going he rotates between his sneakers to fit the environment and express himself.
SHARED SPACED LIVING
Christian’s shared space is practical for an average college student. However, for someone like him who wants to store the many sneakers he owns, he has to scatter them in his living space as well as another off-site location.
PROBLEMS
Inefficient Use of Space
Limited space forces everyday living and storage to compete, leaving no room for intentional organization.
Constant Clutter
Without a system, items quickly become disorganized, turning storage into visual and physical chaos.
Overwhelming Storage
An expanding collection without structure becomes difficult to manage, access, and maintain.
HOW CAN WE HELP
CHRISTIAN?
we can create a modular shoe rack
we can use a material to protect the shoes from yellowing
we can include a rotating product that adds fun and interaction
we can design something that looks sculptural like an addition to the room
we can include a cleaning compartment in the product

DIRECTION
Moved forward in the direction of designing a wall-mounted product that utilizes vertical space to address limited square footage. By lifting storage off the ground, the solution reduces clutter, improves organization, and creates a more intentional and efficient living environment.
